Great Minds Think Differently

COSWD leads NIH’s thought in the science of scientific workforce diversity, using evidence-based approaches to catalyze cultures of inclusive excellence.

What's Happening?

The COSWD vision is to enable NIH and NIH-funded institutions to benefit from the nation’s full range of talent and foster creativity and innovation in science.

Engagement and Access for Research-Active Institutions (EARA)

EARA aims to help Research-Active Institutions navigate NIH funding opportunities, access resources, and connect with NIH Institutes, Centers, and Offices.

COSWD Progress Report Now Available

The midterm progress report highlights COSWD’s milestones and achievements, as we work to accomplish the goals outlined in our strategic plan.

Goals

We aim to build, disseminate, and act on evidence to effect change in the scientific workforce.

Build evidence using research insights and NIH as a testing ground for innovative scientific programs that employ data-driven tactics to enhance DEIA in the scientific workforce.

Building evidence

Disseminate evidence on DEIA through collaboration with the biomedical and behavioral science research community, from trainees to established, tenured scientists.

Sharing the data

Act on evidence by advancing integrated, institution-wide systems to address bias, equity, mentoring, and work-life issues in the scientific workforce.

Applying the evidence

Influence

We pursue evidence-based goals to foster our collaborations, accountability, and evaluation. Through these strategies, we capitalize on our strengths as an evidence-based thought leader and foster inclusive excellence throughout the biomedical and behavioral science workforce at NIH-funded institutions and within NIH.
